Agarwal Takes 3rd at the September 14-16 Mid-West JCT

PJS’s own Avi Agarwal traveled to the state of Ohio to participate in the Mid-West JCT tourney on the weekend of September 14-16.

Avi, entered the tournament as the 10th ranked player in the U15’s.   Avi had great expectations for this event as he has been working extremely hard at improving his game.

The first match was against a player with a ranking of 19th in the country.  This match was a difficult challenge as 2 of the 4 games went into overtime, with Avi winning them both 14-12. He lost the 3rd game but then stormed back with a 11-6 4th game victory.

In the next round Avi was challenged with playing a competitor who was ranked 2 spots above him (#8).  This fact did not faze Avi as he went on to a close straight game win of 11-8, 12-10, 13-11 win.

In the quarter-finals Avi played yet another player ranked ahead of him.  This time it was the 4th ranked player in the country.  Again showing no nerves he went on to a close 4 game victory. 9, 10, (6), 3.

In the semi-finals Avi’s task was to take on the #1 player in the country in the U15 age group.  He fought hard but came up short with a straight game loss. (4, 4, 8).

In the 3/4 play-off Avi was awarded a default leaving him with a 3rd place finish in the Mid-West Junior Championship Tour event.  This is an outstanding result and everyone on the coaching staff at PJS is extremely happy for you.

Congratulations again Avi.
